Wiki Sites

"Wiki" is a Hawaiian word meaning "fast".

Ward Cunningham, the developer of the first wiki software, WikiWikiWeb, originally described it as "the simplest online database that could possibly work".

A wiki (wick-ee) is a website that allows the easy creation and editing of any number of interlinked web pages by multiple users.

They are written in a simplified markup language or a WYSIWYG text editor.Wikis are usually powered by special wiki software.

Uses of Wiki Sites

They can be used to create collaborative wiki websites - in other words ones where many people add to the content - like Wikipedia.
They can also be used to power community websites - where people register and share ideas - like forums and chat rooms.
They can be very valuable for personal note taking, or use within corporate intranets, and in knowledge management systems.
