Layers

The Layers Window is on the right hand side of the page. If it is not visible go to Window in the top menu bar and tick 'Layers' and it will appear.

The Layers feature within Fireworks is a powerful tool that helps you manage and organize objects in your graphic creation.

Layers are transparent planes where you can create and store objects that you want to appear in the finished picture. It is rather like drawing parts of your creation on separate acetate sheets and then arranging them to get the effect you want - overlap and position.

If your picture is made up of layers, you can control the stacking order of objects on your page, quickly moving objects up or down if you want the stacking order to change.

You can easily delete or amend one layer at a time and insert new layers.

To lock a layer click on the pencil and it will change into a padlock. Click again and it will change back.

To hide a layer click on the eye and the layer will disappear from view - click again and it comes back,
