App

An 'app' is common shorthand for application software.

The app is computer software that is specifically designed so that the user can easily perform a specific tasks. Many application programs deal principally with document creation.

Examples:

enterprise software,
accounting software,
office suites,
graphics software and
media players.

Apps are often 'bundled' with the computer and its system software upon purchase, or may be purchased and/or downloaded because they are published separately. Some users are satisfied with the bundled apps and need never install one.
