Functional components of a computer system

Computer systems all consist of hardware components providing five functions.

Input devices: Keyboard, scanner, mouse or microphone for input from the user.

Memory: hard disc wired into the computer housing or accessable via a USB cable

Storage devices: floppy, CD-ROM or DVD-ROM disks or portable drive (accessible via USB) for removable storage.

CPU - Central Processing Unit: chips inside the system unit,

Output Devices: Monitor, printer and speakers for output to the user.
