Jigsaws - Personalised

These puzzles become personal to the subject. They can serve as a souvenir of a schooltime event. They can be used for 'fun' - but for fun that helps children develop the fine motor skills required to position the pieces. Unlike many puzzle programs these do NOT 'click' the piece into place as soon as it is in the area. The child has to position it.

They help to develop shape recognition. They are only at the first stage - there is no need for the child to reorientate the piece - they are therefore direct shape recognition activities.

These are ideal to be done on a whiteboard. Children can volunteer to position the next piece.

These two puzzles were made for my Year 7 physics group in 2011 - a sort of Christmas gift for them.

If you look at the tutorial on how to make a 'swf' jigsaw puzzle, how to add animation and how to add sound, you could make a similar one for your class. Or, in return for a small fee for my time, I could make one for you. The cost would depend on the complexity of the task.

You would need a photo of the class and perhaps a recording of them singing a Christmas song.

I made this one for Halloween. It features my daughter dressed as a witch.

It made an unusual greeting to send to friends.
